Spectrum Community Services is seeking proposals for immediate interim Controller-level and accounting support due to a sudden opening in a key finance leadership position within our organization.
Spectrum Community Services is an approximately $10M nonprofit serving Alameda County, with significant federal, state and local government contracts. We have also just begun our annual audit, making it important that we put experienced financial leadership and additional accounting capacity in place quickly.
Immediate Scope of Support
We are looking for a firm that can provide a combination of:
- Interim Controller-level leadership to oversee the day-to-day finance and accounting function;
- Direct supervision, prioritization and review of work performed by existing accounting staff;
- Hands-on accounting support to supplement our existing team;
- Government contract and grant invoicing, accounts receivable and related reporting;
- Month-end close, reconciliations and financial reporting;
- Audit preparation, schedules, documentation and coordination with our independent auditors;
- Oversight of internal controls and accounting processes; and
- Support with other immediate finance and accounting needs during the transition.
Experience working with nonprofit organizations and federal, state and local government funding is strongly preferred.
We are also interested in using this transition as an opportunity to begin modernizing our finance operations. Experience improving financial systems and workflows through technology, automation and appropriate use of AI would be valuable.
Proposal Requested
Because this is an emergency procurement, we are asking interested firms to provide a concise proposal that includes:
- Proposed staffing approach, including the level and experience of the individual(s) who would be assigned;
- Relevant nonprofit and government-contract experience;
- Experience supporting organizations during an annual audit;
- Availability and earliest possible start date;
- Proposed hours/capacity per week;
- Hourly rates and/or estimated monthly cost;
- Any minimum engagement requirements; and
- Two relevant client references, if available.
Our immediate priority is stabilizing and managing the day-to-day finance function. We anticipate needing interim support while we evaluate and recruit for our longer-term finance leadership structure.
Proposals are due by close of business Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Given the short timeframe, please feel free to contact me via our Contact Form, the Administration option, with questions or to schedule a brief conversation before submitting a proposal.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to support Spectrum Community Services.
