Today, Spectrum Community Services kicks off a month-long celebration of Meals on Wheels to raise funds, recruit volunteers and build lasting community partnerships. The annual March for Meals celebration commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. This March, Meals on Wheels programs from across the country are joining forces to celebrate more than 50 years of success and garner the support needed to ensure these critical programs can continue to address food insecurity and malnutrition, combat social isolation, enable independence, and improve health for years to come. Look for more information, activities and ways YOU can get involved throughout the month of March.

Start Time: 6:00 pm

Prepare a decadent home cooked meal in the comfort of your own home with the help of a Michelin star trained chef.

Thanksgiving is a time of joyful celebration and also a time of reflection. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, many find themselves reflecting with gratitude on  all of the blessings in their lives. While making your holiday plans and reflecting on all you have to be thankful for, this is also a good time to think about those who may be struggling and ask yourself whether you can be of assistance to your elderly neighbors who are in need.

For many seniors, Thanksgiving and the following holiday season can often be a difficult time. Reminders of loved ones lost, lack of family gatherings or the inability to shop or prepare a meal can lead to depression and isolation.

As part of a national partnership with Meals on Wheels America, Subaru of America, Inc. will donate $250 to the purchaser’s choice of participating charities – one of which is Meals on Wheels – for every new vehicle purchased or leased from November 17, 2022, through January 3, 2023. Since the Subaru Share the Love Event began in 2008, Subaru and its participating retailers have donated nearly 4 million meals and friendly visits to seniors being served by local Meals on Wheels programs across the country.
